Since his shadow turn into devil in the first chapter may indicate that he's just pretending or maybe the entire religion or community is praying to a devil who they thought is a "god". I mean he is practically decieving them which escelates the situation moreworde than before without any reason. And his reason of suffering is because of more "salvation"? Its genuinely so messed up.
