Agree with you. Even in this timeline, ML's 'love' seems more like obsession about getting crazy love from a beautiful girl, the point he lost is he became obsessed. Not a genuine love
I don't think he loves her at all. I think it's just guilt and mild interest at this point. I do think he definitely could have genuinely cared for her prior to her memories coming back if his father wasn't so against him caring for the imperial family/anything that's not the duchy or their family though.
I really hope he's not ml, though its obvious he will be ╥﹏╥
