No, actually, Compton doesn't think he is in a better-off place, either. In fact, he doesn't like the orchestra to begin with.
He believe hes in a better place because hes convinced only he can help Garam and "lift him" up from his place with Heejae.

The issue with Compton is that he's so blinded by his own hatred of Heejae but so convinced that he's in a better off place than the other students that his internal wounds are bleeding all over the place and he keeps tryna dress other peoples wounds because of it. Hes grossly projecting and he needs to back the fuck off
