day 7/30 of analyzing sangyang until season 3 comes out (august 23rd btw)
today i'm analyzing the character of suna, as always *SPOILERS AHEAD*.
i find suna to be a hilarious character solely for the fact that she hates lau, (likely for reminding her of her own flaws). her and lau are actually similar in many ways, both abrasive, insecure, and quite frankly they don't think ahead. suna's motivations are what make her stand out as a character to me, particularly her desperation to survive.
suna's fear of instability, while being logical on her part due to the zhou family's track record, is also a product of her own insecurities, which we can see in various moments throughout the series, such as comparing her own looks (ie, nails) to fu rin's. i would say, amongst all of the charas (excluding xin, lian and wei), she is the one most aware of her own position and political struggle. obviously this is due to her own upbringing divorced of the zhou family. growing up an orphan and barely surviving, she always felt she had to claw her way out just to make it. even when she thought she found her big break as the mo heiress, she becomes acutely aware of her illegitimacy threatening her life, especially considering how the zhou family killed off her predecessor. although i compared her to lau, she is not dumb. she was able to leverage the zhou family's wealth to dominate the music industry as idols, for the sole sake of the zhou family not being able to erase her due to her and fu rin's newfound fame. i don't think she even likes being an idol, rather just enjoying the leverage and power it can bring her as a celebrity. and yet regardless, she is still not able to shake the fear of being erased, because as we all know the zhou family will stop at nothing to erase the collateral. propelled by her fear after hearing what happened to the 5th collateral line, she joins chen in his plan for the sake of her survival.
idk if many ppl on mggo know this, but on other sites (that i darent name lest mangago smites me down), suna was a widely hated character. possibly cuz she was a "bitchy" character (so lwk misogyny). but also for a lot of her time on screen she genuinely is very unlikeable. her actions are understandable but the way she treats fu rin is just uncalled for. unlike all of the other guardian heir pairs which have this sense of trust between them (yes even the main four), suna doesn't start to trust fu rin until she gets rescued by her. she treats fu rin like shes dumb, which sure fu rin is very kind and pretty much goes along w suna's antics but she would've been so helpful, and also she's not stupid!! fu rin knows damn well she's just another pawn to the zhou family. hell the whole reason chen was able to kidnap suna in the first place was BECAUSE he knew she didn't trust fu rin so she would show up alone. if fu rin was there she would've beaten the brakes off of chen and avoided this whole mess altogether.
like i mentioned earlier, she is like lau in the sense that she doesn't seem to realize that chen completely manipulated her into giving up the dye. they leave chen's office, with the navy blue dye still in his possession (and we find out it was later given to lian so it is essentially in the hands of the head family now). all her ass accomplished was getting held hostage so the plan to have lau confront chen could take effect. she's meant to be unlikeable in season 1 but her actions get more understandable in season 2 (and tbh even in season 1 i liked her solely cuz she's hilarious especially when fighting lau). in conclusion, i think she's an interesting character and i want to see more of her in season 3. she lwk a flop but i still fw her.
