Compton’s obsession with Heejae (as they say, there’s a thing line between love and hate) has sunk to deep into his bones that it manifests in not only his “own goal” of remoulding Heejae’s only emotionally stable student to meet his own emotional standards towards Heejae (resentment and hatred) but also in his instructive technique as a conductor. He is literally a derivative of his mentor to a certain degree. And I am of the belief that if he found a way to overcome that resentment and obsession, he could play piano again but I am also certain that it would change way of conducting. Also can he back up off Garam!
