Qi is a rich, connected psychopath who literally cut off her own finger over a bluff. If she's willing to do that, what's stopping her from killing the hostage the second Kex makes a reckless move??? Kex's only realistic option is to play the game, earn her way back into that world, and win her friend back.
It fucking sucks, and the SA is horrifying, but the story makes it pretty clear she's completely outmatched right now. Read between the lines, people. Fuck sakes...
