Why I think this is still worth reading: It has a very controversial start (violence, possessiveness and grape) but there was explanation for why such decisions were made, not something random or the malicious nature of the top.
There were also details (the omelets, chapter 37) to show that the top is still capable of understanding the bottom’s suffering and not be controlled by the dominant power dynamic (relatively). However, it is still twisted if im being honest. So, the top’s development took quite a long time before the author could convince the readers that a part of him has changed gradually (ss2 onwards)
Their feelings are mutual and relatively positive as the story progresses (unlike some tropes that drag the whole suffering throughout 2 seasons and got very dark with kidnapping or extreme violence) I believe chapter 45 is the turning point of their relationship when most of the raw truth was revealed and they tried to communicate the problems they have bottled up. (Don’t get ur hope up that it will be rose-tinted glasses after this chapter)
Some people say that the bottom is quite passive. I disagree because his got his own escape plan from the very beginning and by ss2. He has a pure and loving heart, yet he has his own priorities. He doesn’t let reality stop him nor to be blinded by love. He dares to see the truth for what it is, for how twisted but also how endearing the top is.
Moreover, the ABO setting is quite different and very intriguing to read as it presents new aspects like the prayers vs bitten bonds, the pheromone incineration, the pills targeted at betas, and the farming of omegas.
Overall, if ur looking for characters that are complex and a bit extreme, redemption arc and sweet vengeance with babies involved, this one might be a gem in ur reading list
