Actually ( ദദ ˙ᗜ˙ ) Taekjoo is a gray character. Taekjoo isn’t the typical helpless victim or a submissive character. He’s a trained soldier, a government assassin, and a man with unshakable pride. Throughout the novel, his destructive relationship with Zhenya does bring to light his own dark side, his mistakes, and attitudes that could be considered toxic. While Zhenya is clearly a monster, Taekjoo possesses a profound emotional neglect and extreme coldness that actively harm the people around him, such as his mama. When they make their relationship official, Zhenya’s greatest fear at this stage is that Taekjoo will disappear from his life forever. Taekjoo knows this all too well and uses it as a weapon of constant control: At the slightest argument or attempt by Zhenya to interfere with his missions, Taekjoo threatens to leave him. He uses destructive phrases like, “If you do this, you’ll never see me again” or “I fcking hate you,” causing Zhenya to suffer anxiety attacks or beg silently LOL. I also remember that Taekjoo choked Zhenya xd—he uses sex as a threat; he’s hostile. And although I find it great, it’s because Zhenya and Taekjoo complement each other. At one point, Taekjoo could walk away from Zhenya but doesn’t, because he likes what Zhenya represents; he admits he’s never met anyone like him... and well, they own each other.

ugh u explained their dynamic so well i rarely see people who actually understand their dynamic on a more deep level rather than just "green" or "red" flag bullshit also i completely forgot what part of the novel taekjoo chokes zhenya, where was that omg

yeah that's what i meant, i think classifying him as a certain "flag" kinda does his complex and unique character injustice
