It's because it wasn't originally apart of the plot. For some reason, they decided to add an unnecessary and random scene to the series. At least, that's how I have understood it

Why are y’all going crazy over one rape scene? It’s a single scene. And for those of you saying it’s too detailed, it’s really not. It’s not that deep. How is a single scene gonna drive you this far up the wall? If you can’t handle a single rape scene, maybe you shouldn’t be reading this stuff.
