i think it was strongly implied they had a more complicated relationship than that in all the flashbacks. we saw them kiss once and saw jaeyoung behaving with him similarly to how he behaves with seungmin during their trainee days. although i don't know if they were straight dating i just used ex-bf as a descriptor?
