I would just read it, you don't need to like him. He won't have it easy, much harder than Chase. Everything in the end was earned the hard way.
And the way it develops is actually good for Chase, since what he really needs of Grayson is an honest apology, and without that development it would never happen. In addition Josh is involved in this messy story, it plays a few years after KMIYC, so you get an update on them too.
And you actually find out why Grayson's way of helping is so messed up.

He actually does something there to help Chase who was in a serious condition, doing what he wished in bringen Josh to him. He isn't as bad as you might think in KMIYC either.
