it explains it more in the novel but the duke family is very strong physically in exchange for no mana and astrid know that and the reason why astrid favours our mc is because mages adore those with more mana than themselves but yeah she does treat them rough in the novel especially the duke not that he minds anyways
But idk... I think the duke and his fams slowly got better. Tho there is still a talk about sacrifice, but they lowk doting the MC. Despite not having emotion, they've tried their best.
I also kinda don't like how lady Astrid shoved away her own child just to kidnap MC. She knew that his husband actually cares about her but still choose divorce over MC who she barely knows (cmiiw, because it seems like that to me)
Yes, she is a wild and unique character, but if she ends up choosing or care for MC more than her own child... Imma drop this
