The novel explained it pretty well .They skipped soo much from the novel like literally he was stuck in that mountain for months and he kept losing more n more of his memories it was crazy
I agree- they skipped so much from the novel. All that build up made sense and he spent more time with himself and the grandma. Here tho it all feels so forced and rushed.
