Iirc, Leguin actually defended Philomel to the end even as a "villainess" in that previous timeline, so philomel choosing leguin over the emperor should've been obvious.

Even looking at the lastest chapters, I know it may seem like observation of experiments when he notes how the sons are like, but people just have different ways to show their love and he never left them and kept educating them to actually be "normal"
