Exactly!! I don't like when authors feel like they have to stretch the ending out so that the fans get more couple time. Every time the authors do that, it feels like they've lost the plot, and it retroactively sours the whole experience. Fanfics and doujins are the best to fill the hole in our hearts left by the absence of that fanservice ( ꈍᴗꈍ)
Now if there was a short little extra at the end with a little couple scene (like a cute 4-koma), I would not complain lol
You explained it so nicely! That's exactly how I felt about the ending as well. It kept things relevant and still had the emotional pang we expected of the story.
When I compare this to other high school genre stories, I don’t think the ending’s rushed at all. Having a single chapter that time skips forward several years is pretty typical.
I’m really glad Blue Flag kept it to mostly high school. The story wanted to talk about gender, friendships, and staying true to yourself. We needed a contained setting of passionate people to dig into that, and high school was a great choice of setting. Progressing into college or trade school or job hunting wouldn’t have served the purpose of talking about the themes the author wanted.
I don’t want the author to write about everyone getting older just to add more chapters. I don’t want this to be content. I like how this was a meaningful story about a specific subject and I like how it ended.
