actually because dane is just as strong as grayson and he can’t be swayed or compelled by grayson’s pheromones into doing anything he doesn’t want to do, and his pheromones actually allow him to have the upper hand against grayson as his pheromones can knock grayson unconscious and erase his memory, plus his pheromones as a dominant omega can force grayson to go into rut but it takes the pheromones of 5 dominant alphas to make a dominant omega to go into heat, so dane has all the advantage and can’t be forced into anything (unless of course he unexpectedly goes into heat for other reasons….like not taking his suppressants everyday….but even then he’s still just as strong and tall as grayson so he can’t easily overpower grayson)
also, grayson is somehow a gentleman in that regard and doesn’t believe in forcing or coercing others into having sex with him or doing any other sexual things with him, he knows that’s a line he shouldn’t cross, and he also doesn’t want to be forced by someone else into having sex with them (which is part of why he responded so harshly in the first chapter when those twins tried to force themselves on him, although that doesn’t excuse how he used his pheromones to make them suffer)

The first time something begins to happen will happen within the next 5 chapters or so, during the middle of dane’s attempt to kidnap grayson, grayson manages to trick dane and escapes and they end up in the middle of nowhere in the woods but there’s a cabin nearby that belongs to the miller family and they go there to take refuge until someone comes to rescue them. Grayson purposefully traps them in the cabin, in a way where it is impossible for dane to escape until grayson decides for them to leave (it’s difficult to explain but you’ll understand once we get to that part of the story), so that he and dane have time alone where it’s just the two of them to force dane into getting to know him so they can hopefully become a couple, but because dane has gone more than 24 hours without taking his suppressants his heat comes unexpectedly (not even grayson realised it would i don’t think, it’s been a while since i read the novel), and dane tries to force himself on grayson while he’s completely out of it due to his heat, but grayson doesn’t want to have sex with him while he’s in heat because they didn’t talk about it before dane’s heat started, when his mind was clear and sound, and he refuses to have sex with dane because he’s not in his right mind and he doesn’t do that, but dane still tries really hard to force grayson to have sex with him, including using his pheromones to try and force grayson’s rut, to which grayson shrieks and yells that this is rape and he doesn’t want this (which he is totally right about). I can’t remember if they do end up having sex or not before they leave the cabin once dane’s heat has calmed down, but that is what solidifies to grayson that dane is undeniably a dominant omega and his fated mate.
