It's understandable how that's the only way he knows to get what he wants. He lost his family, even his foster family gave him up. So hurting himself = people will get worried and take care of him. Call it attention seeking but this is how human psychology works when they grew up without much care and met with abandoning everytime. But it is more that nobody is there to teach him the right way. And that's why he doesn't know how to ask for help. (To those who still unaware, asking for help is NOT EASY) He's literally forced to take care of himself even when he's like 4-5 y/o. I am not defending him. This is being aware that this guy is not stable and mentally ill. If you think this behavior is uncommon then you're completely wrong. Sadly, even his friend isn't helping...
