The ML will have a different fiancé later, trying to keep MC as a lover on the side. ML will confine MC and she becomes pregnant and hides it from ML. Then she becomes miserable and runs away to a different kingdom. ML will chase after her but they only reunite years later because of a war. MC doesn’t forgive ML immediately so there’s a bit of a chasing arc.

She tried to be all cool about the relationship claiming it was all for business, she doesn’t mind him having a lover etc. Turns out she did like ML and also her family was in a huge financial crisis and they needed the ML’s family name to borrow money to help them out of the bind. She also kind of instigated MC running away from ML without sharing the pregnancy news. ML finds out about all this and breaks off the engagement. He also decides to go into war himself and ask the king for a “wish” or favor after he succeeds so he can marry the MC as the duchess.
