I don’t think it’s weird, more like strained? Since jinwoo and his mother are seemingly a low income family, his mother finds it hard to accept Jinwoo pursuing his dream of working in the film industry instead of a financially stable career. Jinwoo is aware of this and (I think) has a mix of guilt and slight resentment towards his mother about it.
She resents him for chosing lighting as a major instead of chosing something more lucrative after he was a good student his whole life and could have chosen skmething that was going to get them out of poverty.
And he feels stressed and chained to her because of her pressure towards him
