Y’all need to consider the EXTENT of him neglecting her - especially thinking how they’ve been engaged probably for like over 10 years now (again seeing that they were engaged as children and are now on the cusp of graduating - most likely as 18 year olds) - Responding so late to letters that it would be a 7:1 ratio of her letters to his - Going on dates, pointing out accessories and ACTIVELY DESCRIBING HOW BEAUTIFUL ANOTHER WOMAN WOULD LOOK IN THEM - Choosing to abandon his fiancée at couple events where his ONE AND ONLY JOB IS TO STAND NEXT TO HER AND MAYBE DANCE, and instead choosing to STAND NEXT TO PRINCESS CAROLINE THE WHOLE TIME and leave his fiancée loitering around the walls - Never in his entire TEN YEAR ENGAGEMENT has he eaten lunch with his fiancée and instead chooses to eat with the student council (who btw also make time for their partners) - Caroline asks “where’s your fiancée been lately” and bro’s response with ZERO EMOTION ON HIS FACE IS “why do you ask” - The ML literally has a realisation midway through that “you’re supposed to put more effort into things you find important”.. which btw he has been putting PLENTY OF EFFORT INTO CAROLINE AS SEEN BY -> - ML actively states he’s maximising his time with Caroline despite not needing to because she’s going…so he clearly knows how to put effort when necessary - Bro did not know his fiancée’s favourite colour until recently…genuinely lvl 1 small talk
People you need to consider that the FL has been putting excess effort since the VERY BEGINNING and the only reason he started putting effort in was because his friends had to ACTIVELY SPELL OUT THAT HIS FIANCÉE IS GROWING DISTANT. He couldn’t tell because he LITERALLY NEVER PAYS ATTENTION TO HER ACROSS THEIR TEN YEAR ENGAGEMENT.
That being said I really hope they keep up the work. All the blatant expositioning with the books she’s reading about independent heroines, her commentary on the character in her book taking too long to realise what he was doing, the way she’s focused on forging her own path. The only right ending is her studying abroad. Idc what happens to the ML idk maybe he’ll realise that he doesn’t mind being alone either.
