I think what a number of folks don't understand was; almost the entire story was ABOUT his trauma and how he was eventually able to finally be set free. His behavior wasn't excused. However, it gave us a view on why he he didn't understand it was such a bad thing, or even that it was classified as "rape". Because he himself had gone through the same, groomed and raped before he had even entered grade school, his mind was conditioned to this horrific behavior.
The rape wasn't 'forced' by the writer. Nor was the traumatic upbringing. The story had a clear start, middle, and finish. If you don't understand, that's fine. Reread it. If you believe this just a same old justification for rape, gtfo. Politely.
Sidenote: I believe this story was absolutely beautiful, as tragic as it was. Honestly it wasn't perfect, but I suppose one person's idealogy of 'perfection' varies from folk to folk. It was so unique in the way the writer captured inside Kei's mind, showed how he was being controlled by two 4 year old selves. The metaphors... goodness. Everything. So fucking beautiful.
