I think people are getting the wrong idea about why she felt hurt by his reaction, From his POV he is upset because he saw her with a man outside the opera but from her POV it seems like he is angry because she sneaked outside the house without someone to keep an eye on her and report to him. She feels like he is doubting her intentions of helping out in clearing the Empress' name but she doesn't know he is just feeling jealous from seeing her with a man(which he has no right to) and suffering from contradicting emotions he is feeling in regards to her. Both of them are on totally different tangents and its causing both of them hurt.
