Read it, you won't regret

My heart only settled in the last 5 chapters. The author did a really good job writing this in a realistic way, and that’s exactly why I could finally calm down and enjoy the happy ending.

I’m struggling to put into words how I feel about the characters, but the main thing I want to say is: don’t be afraid to keep reading. It’s not the heaviest story I’ve read emotionally, but it still manages to capture how deep and complicated some feelings can get given the characters’ circumstances.

The ending is happy, and thank god MC and ML found each other and stayed together. Maybe if MC never went into a coma, he and his ex would’ve eventually reached some kind of understanding (with both of them compromising), or maybe the ex would’ve just kept bottling everything up until it all exploded. We’ll never know, and honestly those “what ifs” don’t really matter. In real life they just torture you and create delusions.

I never wanted him to go back to his ex after the things the ex said. Just like they said in their last goodbye, the ex couldn’t even bring himself to be glad MC was alive when he came back. That detail from their first reunion really stuck with me. He got so obsessed with cutting ties and making the new relationship work. By the end he finally realizes he was just running away from his feelings and from facing the reality that came crashing back into his life.

It’s understandable that he was caught off guard, and that after years of pain and loneliness he wanted to run. That’s what makes the whole thing ache so much, what else was he supposed to do? He wanted to take responsibility for the new partner, but that relationship never had the same emotional weight as the one he built with MC over years and years. He failed to look at his own heart and why he was really clinging to the new guy. In the process he hurt MC, cut him off without facing him properly, and pushed him away without ever trying to understand his side.

I think some things could’ve used a bit more space in the story. If this is based on a novel, maybe it’s written out in more detail there. Still, it’s a great story overall.

In the end, ML was the perfect person for MC and vice versa. I really liked how clear-headed MC was during their early relationship, how aware he was of his own feelings and situation, and how he knew when to put a stop to things even when it drained him emotionally. In contrast, it was both funny and kind of annoying how oblivious ML acted around him when it was so obvious he was falling for MC and their relationship wasn’t just physical.

As for the ex’s partner… if MC had actually died, the ex probably would’ve stayed with him forever. After losing MC, that was the first real comfort he’d felt in a long time, and the trauma was too heavy for him to risk being alone again. So he filled the emptiness with all the love and care that guy was offering. It’s genuinely sad.

But man, I really wanted a side story of our leads just going on vacation together, being happy and not thinking about anything except how good it feels to be with each other and how much they love each other. Every time they thought about their love it always seemed to come with some other feeling attached, like an insecurity hovering over them. That’s why my heart only fully rested at the end, it mirrors real-life relationships a little too well, lol.

Since they’re in the US at the end, it would’ve been really nice to get an extra chapter set years later with them getting married. And I don’t even mean it purely from a romantic angle, if something ever happened to MC at work, having a legal spouse who can be notified and take responsibility is just the practical choice. But a honeymoon side story is always welcome in any manhwa, hehe.
