Absolutely. It can def be a culture/thought out choice to have that dynamic, but it’s 100% different if it’s something like this: someone berating you and calling you stupid, dismissing your opinion and trying to force you into what they want regardless of your input. I agree that it’s important to bring up considering this dynamic is INCREDIBLY romanticized—be it in straight or queer relationships—this in turn can leave people not considering the repercussions if they haven’t considered it fully (aka now having to worry about their partner’s mood affecting what they can eat, wear, how much money they have, etc)

Economic violence is a thing and this is an example, now the bottom depends completely on the top, he literally transfered his dept to him, not like the bottom do it willingly but it's part of the manipulation the top did and even if the top "out of good heart or pity" didn't wanted the bottom to work in real life it's what most abusers do -they don't let their partners have their own money so they can't escape easily from the relationship and excuse their bad actions with "but I pay your bills, what gives you the right to be angry?"- there's this quote if it helps someone:

I know it's fiction but it's good to notice this things so you don't fall in the manipulation
