it makes me sad

reading this makes me think about how typically, romances with one of the characters being “ugly” usually tend to be about a male character. a beautiful woman who falls for someone typically unattractive (a monster usually) and that’s how the romance pans out. it is relevant in real life too… ethereal women will be with men who aren’t perceived as attractive simply because of who they are as a person. even with the “hear me out” trend you’ll see women choosing more obscure things than men.

it’s too often men see themselves entitled to attractive women, no matter what they themselves look like. you rarely see a handsome man who wholeheartedly loves their unattractive significant other. even ugly men who date gorgeous women continue to think they are entitled to even more women…

it’s just so rarely there is a story about a beautiful man and an unattractive woman. stories are always about women accepting a man for who they are but never the other way around. and in this story, so many people (namely, gorgeous people) love paula. for herself as a person. even when she lied about her appearance to vincent, he still loves her with her true appearance.
