I really hope the author is a man, because if this was written by a woman then it's just sad. Sad of how low the bar for men she has.
The only person who truly cared about Erna in this story was Lisa. Erna's grandmother was one of the biggest disappointments. Just because Björn loves Erna, she has to go back to him? Is the only way for a woman to be happy if she's loved by a man? Even if that love is expressed in all the wrong ways?
This is a very good reminder why I stopped reading these historical romances. The theme of 'trashy man feels sad so a woman must forgive him and love him' is far too common.
