What's an angel in the bible?
Christianity is highly relevant to the plot and background, but Hikaru does not fit the mold of a biblical angel :[ In the Bible, angels never consume or destroy souls. Within the biblical canon, the human soul is immortal, and its ultimate destiny—Heaven or Hell—is determined solely by God. Angels serve as messengers, guardians, or executors—like the Archangel Gabriel—but they do not "consume" human essence. The only being in the Bible that seeks to "devour" people is the Devil (1 Peter 5:8), though this refers to spiritual temptation and damnation rather than literal consumption as food. Anyway, Hikaru’s spiritual form does indeed resemble an angel! *Ophan* (plural: *Ophanim*), or simply a "Wheel," belonging to the order of Thrones within the celestial hierarchy. This description is drawn directly from the first chapter of the Book of Ezekiel, where the prophet experiences a striking vision of God's throne in motion. Hikaru only monitored the souls of the villages, not the entire world, because he is a local deity. Anyway, is an interesting parallel.
while there are some references we would draw parallels to i do think this cyclical nature is directly from buddhism, samsara and all that good stuff
