Hmm, from my interpretation, the real-life Horowitz always told Janis to strive to be the first Janis rather than the second Horowitz. With that philosophy in mind, Heejae uses hate, which is a very powerful emotion, to strip away any instinct Garam might have to imitate his sound. The goal is for him to become the first Han Garam, not the second Heejae. Heejae seems to believe that hate is powerful enough to draw out Garam’s own distinct “sound” when he plays the piano. I’m not sure if that answers what you meant, but let me know if you were asking something different.

Im currently on chapter like 30 to 40-ish and i didnt quite understand the part about janis and his piano teacher and the reason why Heejae has been treating Garam so awfully, can somebody explain it for me?? Im kind of confused because im hella tired rn and cant comprehend sentences that require a wide range of vocabulary etc. when im half asleep
