Hot take, but I actually really like works that queerbait or stay in that very grey area with its characters. I find it fascinating since it’s essentially exploring a relationship not bound by common labels, so things are a little more unpredictable. But this is assuming the author isn’t being weird about it and also just having fun with their characters. If I want romance, I’ll go read romance. There’s no need for me to project what I think the author should be doing with their own work. Granted, it’s also very funny to see people jokingly saying “just bone already.” I understand that, too.
