Hmmm maybe it'll help when I tell you that those aren't shadows?
It's just a stylistic choice to have the upper part of the iris darker than the lower.
I don't know where it originated from but that style appears in a lot of animes and mangas!

The large shadows over the top of the iris bother me for some reason and idk why. I get distracted by them. I like everything else tho
