aww i actually like this grittier, darker slowburn phase. wasn't the atmospheric descent to where we are now hauntingly beautiful? how the lighter, brighter atmosphere of S1 slowly darkened throughout S2 after the truth shattered the illusion of their relationship, and juheon began dealing with his family, blackmail, etc. and now we've had this dark atmosphere weighing over us all throughout S3, growing heavier as the two are forced to confront things they've buried. chef's kiss ( ˶˘ ³˘)♡
i love how the story allows that heavy tension to simmer rather than rushing toward a resolution. we're getting a more complex story as we uncover and explore juheon's and dohu's long-standing personal struggles alongside the dirt within the showbiz industry, the very industry their careers revolve around, rather than making their relationship conflict the sole focus. not everyone's cup of tea, but fuck i find all this drama and angst sexy. how it makes my heart race and ache despite (or rather, especially because of) the slow, atmospheric pace. i don't think the author ever intended this to be a light read, and i love that.
i prefer this direction over reducing the story to a rigid, linear chase arc. we're getting deeply fleshed-out characters and a story that feels bigger than just the two of them (ㅅ´ ˘ `)♡ the slower pace gives all these threads room to breathe. i especially want juheon to have time to process and deal with everything happening in his life and reach a steadier headspace, so that when he and dohu finally sit down and confront their relationship, they're actually dealing with each other rather than everything else weighing on them. i can feel we're getting there.
at this point, i'm happy to let the slowburn take its time. i'm enjoying the ride, and i trust the payoff will be worth it (*ᴗˬᴗ)ꕤ*.゚
