I guess since he cant pull his revenge on the main target. One solution is to go for the weaker targets to get a reaction out of the main one. Kinda like those movies where the hero MC has weak spots like their lover or family. So, the enemy targets them where it hurts most, as a quick and effective method.

Okay, I don't see the purpose of trying to act petty on your future hand-in husband if he's innocent and all you want to do is get revenge because of what happened to you.
