Everytime I read this, the only thing that pisses me off is the jokes they make constantly about his face. The artist didn't actually give him an ugly face by a long shot. When he doesn't grimace, he's actually pretty cute. I also don't get what "looking noble" means, especially coming from someone like count Cremo, who looks like an ordinary old guy as well. Put him in regular clothes and he's nothing to look at either. They sometimes say he's ugly, then they say he just looks like a servant or a "too plain". Which doesn't imply "ugly", in my eyes, but whatever, I don't get it anyway. And I get that he feels insulted, but at the same time, why would anyone want a woman who can't look at anything but the absolute surface? Like, this dude is seriously capable and the people of his estate, which he will inherit, are pretty fucking happy for the most part. But you literally fucking cry at the prospect of marrying him, because his face isn't super handsome? Again, he just isn't ugly. Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. You got to DRAW him however you wanted and you made him like THIS? Then write accordingly! All the things I don't particularly love about his design are inherently part of the artstyle, which isn't my favorite - yes, I don't normally care about the art of things, so I usually don't mention it, but this is actually not my favorite in terms of human design, because of the weird head shapes and the chin-to-neck ratio - so they affect "super handsome" characters like Javier as well. In other words, he simply isn't ugly. But the girls portrayed here, except for a SINGLE ONE, which isn't meant for him, ironically, are completely braindead (I don't count the Queen here, because she wasn't introduced to marry him within the story line, though it's more than obvious from the get-go that she's his endgame, because no other female character gave him the time of they, unless you count his mother). Like, there must have been daughters of barons or impoverished nobles among them, who would probably NEED to find someone desperate enough to marry them, and then they hit the jackpot, but say "nah, it'll be fine" because the face is too plain or even ugly or whatever. This is just something I will never get over. In addition to that, I get that it's meant to be funny, but the story usually has a perfect mix of levity and gravity to it - only in a few moments do they overdo it with the jokes. I get that Javier still likes to egg Lloyd on until the end, but being blatantly disrespectful shouldn't be funny. When a noble is told that, no, Javier isn't Lloyd, the insistence on the other person being "more noble" just comes off extremely forced and stupid. It's just, again, blatant disrespect for no reason and should have consequences. In any other situation, the standing of a noble is clear and structured. But when it comes to Lloyd, it's all a big joke. It's pissing me off, not gonna lie.
