its just another universe that gives a reason to bang- espers are people with super human strength that can rampage when they over do their abilities (used to conquer domains- like a video game) and guides through physical contact balance out those abilities.
Guideverse is an alternate universe where what's considered an apocolypse happens - gates from an alternate dimension (Or sometimes hell itself) open and either release monsters or pose a threat nonetheless, and humans adapted over the course of time to fight back against these dungeons. These humans are divided into two categories, esper and guide. Espers are the humans who adapted to have the powers to fight the gates, and the range of abilities possible is endless. They can awaken at any time, usually in response to a traumatic event. When espers use their ability too much, it makes them more susceptible to exhaustion, pain, and eventually rampage. This is what brings the existence of guides, who use physical touch to rebalance the esper's physical and mental condition, with more touch = faster and stronger healing.
