- Readers - men even women, were praising the work saying it realistically depicts the harsh work conditions back then.
- Even as a young reader back then, I didn’t understand why I just couldn’t agree with them.
- its because the sex work, the expressions, the scenes were drawn in a glorified, pornographic way. The term is MISERY PORN
- this applies to movies where they show GRAPHIC. INTIMATE. Erotic scenes of the female victims suffering. While the male actors get slashed brutally and be done with. They’re never tortured the same HUMILIATING way.
- example of these incel movies - watch them on your own discretion: Perfume The Story, I saw the Devil.
- Beware if any of your guy friends praise the above movies, they most probably incels. Heck if they side with Bear from Obsession, be careful.

This is a fantasy - imagine the person who tortures you - is actually the person who loves you the most - and they will soon regret and repent their actions.
Irl, people who torture you couldn’t give a shit about you, and only care about themselves.
That’s why fantasy stories are created - what if - behind their actions - they did it because they didn’t realize they love the other person? (A plot in many BLs - no surprise)

The presentation of a story is even more important than the actual plot. It barely looks different than any other regular smut scene in BL. Since it fails to portray rape as bad it becomes a glorification of rape.
This rings true with a lot of novel adaptations where the source material is violent and deeply unsettling but the adaptation opts to make it erotic to make it more “appealing”. It harms the story and invites criticism. It’s rape porn.
If you have a rape fetish, just say that. Don’t go defending this pretending it’s is some amazing narrative because it’s really not. The plot exists as a flimsy excuse to create more and more rape/shock porn.”
