underlying message through art

typically, i don’t read too much into the art as words do more of the talking for me. Yet with this story, you HAVE to look at the detail of the art to understand the message within the story. Reading through this current chapter; i focused on the text, paying no real mind to the art. Then i read it again, and things started to click. This story is so much deeper than what the words lead on. The art/imagrey shows the underlying message of trauma, pain and embarrassment within Yesung and, in turn, the confusion, realization and subtle anger within Geok. This story takes an indirect (and direct) look at sexual abuse, harassment, hyper-sexuality and, on the other hand, a bystander’s role in being the partner of someone who has gone through these things. It’s unique, and I hope the illustrator can continue to pour small detail to play out Yeesung’s growth, and Geok’s ability to support him through this time.
