The manic episodes/siezures are caused by the poison he was fed all the way back. To counter the seizures, that could kill him, he has to take the medicine, but that makes him lose memories. So until they have an antidote to the original poison, the seizures will continue. Sylhan talked about this with Ishimon like 1-2ch back.
