Asexual means someone who experiences low or no sexual attraction, it doesn’t automatically mean complete lack of sexual experience or interest (though that is the case for some asexual people). Asexuals can have had sex and still be asexual: it’s an attraction spectrum encompassing folks with no interest whatsoever, to low interest, to folks like demisexuals (who need to form an emotional connection to someone before they can potentially become attracted to them) and so forth.
He sounds like he absolutely is asexual from his own self-described lack of interest, just possibly demisexual or gray ace or similar.
