Yanagi didn't force Ran to keep being friends, and, outside of Ran's parents, is the only person outside the cafe to support Ran. Besides, the confession was from when they were first years, and Yanagi's reason for the rejection was sound. They didn't know squat about one another. Judging by them having part time jobs I'd say they are probably 3rd years now so it's been two years since then. That's plenty of time for them to at least grow and mature a lil and start off as friends lol
Like, it really shows how childish or immature some of ya'll can be. My best friend is someone who once confessed to me and waited 2 years to do so. Obviously I rejected him ((I'm pansexual with a hard lean into fems)) but we've been best friends for a decade now. We've both been in and out of relationships the entire time, too.
