depends on which era the works are from:

recently? the older one 90-95% of the time is the bott (doesn't matter the size or age gap, if they be olde, they be taking it in the ah);

2010s? the more shy-type and timid one is the bott almost everytime (and their tops are often outgoing jerks and assholes to really hammer down that personality difference);

2000s and earlier? the smaller one hands down, always the bott (literally that yaoi size gap meme, or twink x twink but the shorter one is still the one getting it)

some of the older variants are still existent in some recent works, but as far as I've observed these are the most noticeable patterns, like you could say there are still 2000s-level type of works now, sure, but the trend doesn't show it, I mean You are My World and Red Thread Quest are in the top rankings, along with other hunk x hunk works, it just varies on whoever is older between the two and as I said, that's who eventually ends up bottoming lmao
