I really liked Heisuke's character, he wasn't a stereotypical cheerful cousin doting on Aki or a gloomy teen or a happy go lucky perfect charming one. He was just himself, his friends accepted him as he was and you could clearly see from where his personality came from (Mom and aunty hehe). By the end be opened up more and discovered that he also cared and loved others in his own way, even when the annoying guy at school or others may said carelessly that he didn't care about anyone or anything. He's JUST a teenager babysitting his own cousin, their relationship was realistic and sweet. Aki wasn't treated as a baby and neither was he written as a super mature child. I believe Heisuke treated him as many of us were treated by older family members when we were kids, caring but not like a parent or a kindergarten teacher, love and familiarity
