The “trapped in the closet” part was a little too on the nose for me there’s ways to show without telling, especially if your using a metaphor that’s really popular. Showing a visual of a door opening or being trapped might get the point across without coming across as corny or on the nose. I can’t speak for others, but I personally don’t love to be slapped across the face with themes.
