People here... commenting selfish and pathetic because he tried to off himself and everything... is it because you guys has never been in a depressed state to the point that you can't think of anything except how to die? If you have then I'm sorry, if you haven't let me explain a little. When you are in that state, you can't see anything, you just want to run from anything and sleep forever.
It was suffocating to even be awake yet you can't fell asleep because you suffocate, it's a hellish loop and guess what people did if they are both depressed and sleep deprived? Unrational thinking, bad decision making, the brain won't function well. In the end all negative thoughts filled you.
These common depressed thought like "I should just die" "It's all my fault" "I am undeserved to be loved" "How should I die?" "No one will be sad even if I died" ...when you are brave enough to act it out... it's when you know he really has lose it.
Pathetic? Yes. But that's what depression did to someone. "Just because some woman left him" it's the woman he love so much he didn't care if she cheated. She even left by expressing how she had always been suffocated with him instead all this time. All his love has been a lie all this time. The happiness he felt, its all a lie. And the fact that he has always blames everything to himself because of how he was raised, the sadness, the guilt, the anger, heartbreak, betrayal, fear of losing.
Isn't what author wanted to convey was how deeply and foolishly he was in love with this one woman? Those "he is so selfish" judgmentality is what drove him depressed from both guilt and how it better for him to die.
It's not he is free of fault. It's just he is in no right mind to think far, forgetting that there is this little soul that would get so sad to lose him.
