Low key this is hella mid. OC treats a single year being called "defective" just as torturous (if not more) than a few hours enduring actual torture. If that's his worst experience then his character is a that of a literal f*cking p*ssy.
My man is a talented kid growing up in a wealthy family who fails in exactly one thing and suddenly he's had a hard life. Idk it just feels like he's got the backstory and personality of a privileged spoiled brat who has been humbled by a single defect and has made it the only thing he's about.
Not only that but his dad never even abandoned him; he left home cuz he was being a total edge lord, his dad just wanted him to redirect his talents elsewhere when he found out that he couldn't go any further with using magic directly.
So essentially, the whole of his suffering was just a new nickname and a year spent searching for a way to improve his magic.
Overall, not terrible just not really any good.

(I almost forgot but the way they handle the side characters is sad. They're purely decoration, if you removed them from the story it would impact nothing. The girl is def a love interest, don't let them fool you. And bro is just there to be the standard guy friend that these types of books usually have, little to no personality and just there so that they can say that its not a harem)
