I love the way that the two dads parallel each other so well, especially in the most recent chapters. Eustis has a child out of love and is unable to love that child and neglects her. While Leguin has children out of curiosity but clearly cares for and helps them grow in his own way. They are both not the best fathers but I would rather the one that writes a notebook on observations about his children than the one who only starts creating a connection with his child after she minimizes herself to please him.
Also, love how the story is starting to show that Leguin loves his sons too. He clearly dotes on Philomel but I think it's part of how he has different relationships with all his kids based on what he thinks they need. So many stories make fathers not like their sons and it's so weird, I was afraid this story was going in that direction.
