If you look at their positions when they're all still running right before each of the women get picked up you can see who is directly behind who. Nice little detail. It'd have been harder for the ML and maybe second ML to cross paths to grab the saintess and FL.

Choco have you ever heard of the concept of "show don't tell". Yea. Comics rely HEAVILY on that, so yes it very well could be the case that the author is using this to pair off the individuals. Or it could just be just whomever was closer to who. But I'll be honest, a good chunk of manhwas are so heavy handed that it isn't that far of a stretch to assume black haired male protagonist isn't the male lead. This is how you have a dialogue.
