It was really good and felt like a realistic depiction of the aftermath of how someone would feel after their best friend commited suicide. The questioning, the wondering was I not good enough, the confusion, why did you kill your self and not tell me when you used to love me so much. I also really liked how shiino only really had mariko as a friend and it seemed/was basically confirmed it was the same for mariko. I could relate a lot to their codependent relationship especially with mariko saying that she’ll die if shii falls in love with anyone else, to never abandon her cause she’ll be angry. I also found it realistic that mariko ofc got into a toxic relationship with a man bc it reflects the abuse she suffered due to her father so ofc she would seek out a relationship like that since it has become normalized for her, and then her saying how she likes how shii gets angry for her sake. I want someone like that too, to care enough about me to be angry for me, to be concerned for me and my sake, to be truly sad and empty if I were to ever leave, that they wouldn’t be able to get over it for the rest of their life. I want someone to really care for me, I want a best friend like shiino. It all felt very grounded and I’m not necessarily sure if I’d complain about the length as being an issue, it was clearly able to tell a fully fleshed story within 4 chapters and if that’s all it needed, then I don’t believe more was necessary. It was a short and lovely read. I had kept seeing edits/panels of it posted on tt/some on twt and I’ve only known about it since 2026 (I’m assuming this is an older work but I only discovered it during late august). My only impression going into it was I knew it was something psychological/sad and I thought it would’ve been longer/a full manga. It reminds me of mars no kiss, short but impactful story
