I feel like that makes sense for this story though. The FL previously had no one she could rely on. The conditions of the FL's return (e.g. her grandmother thinking was greedy/ungrateful and making her kneel, her maid being beaten, the side family's manipulation) or in her past (where her husband made her fight the multi headed monsters by herself or when she had to stop that guard guy from attacking her son), makes it clear what type of man she wants. She wants someone that is dependable, supportive, and will show up and solve her problems. She wants that support system. We can see this through him attacking the monster with her and her appreciating him based off of that. And I do agree that he can be a bit of a nothing burger sometimes, but I think for this story, it's fine.
Ml is fine and all but he doesn't contribute anything major to the story in my opinion. hes mostly shown in parts where the fl is having a bit of trouble figuring things out and then he shows up and strikes a deal with her abt the thing she was having trouble with. I just feel like the ml was created to just always conveniently be there when the fl is trying to figure out how to solve a situation whether tough or not.
