Garon with Hyehan, Hyehan lets go of Charin who repeatedly shows he does not love him. Hyehan learns to be with someone who chooses him. As for who tops I have no idea. Charin with Jin. Charin will choose to be with who he loves. Jin is who he thinks about when trapped. And for us the readers I guess the message that sex does not equal love.
I love how Tehir is portrayed as socially awkward bc of his isolation at the same time he took Kimoto for granted and treated him badly. And Charin being a reject of society and how hard he tries for a better life. Jin being so different from the time he was a kid to the way he is as an adult. Details like this are why I feel like author spent a lot of time capturing the emotions of different kinds of human suffering and putting them in wacky sci-fi scenarios that are still recognizable as common human problems with the accompanying human pain.
We get to watch different characters place bets on what will save them and it’s painful to see them choose wrong. But that’s life.
And… this is my personal opinion but as terrible as Hyehan is, I can’t help but like him. Not only is he a a legendary computer programmer he’s also an advanced surgeon at an extremely young age. I haven’t forgotten he committed literal murder and caused the deaths of Charin’s gang members and manipulated Charin to rock bottom. It bugs the hell out of me that this guy could do such things. But at the same time… there’s also something touching about the way that he could love someone so much. An unparalleled genius, falling head over heels in love and facing failure for the first time with the failure being unable to save the person he loves. It’s just… so psychologically appealing seeing someone who has everything intellectually and be brought to his knees by love. I can’t see them ending up together though. The devastation is too much.
Whatever happens, I hope we get to see Charin finally happy and thriving.
