just finished reading this and here are my two cents that no one asked for (might have bad takes since i read this in one sitting lol sorry in advance)
- i understand the underwhelming ending since this was abruptly cancelled/discontinued for a reason i don't know so i don't hold it against them. after all, i'm only reading this for free as well
- for ethelmund's character, i'm still kind of iffy with his relationship with violet. maybe it's just me but as soon as someone mentions they are my sibling, i'll automatically see them like that and there will be a line that should not be crossed.
- also, i feel like their relationship is not that deep or explored enough. everytime they talk, the other one is most of the time angry. the ml is not even given the chance to have a personality. he's the typical stoic, "i won't tell you anything so that it can lead to a misunderstanding" type of guy
- also, i don't like how the ml talked to violet in one chapter with how he described her attempt as an inconvenience :(( to think that at such a young age she concluded that it was better to end it all is heartbreaking. this was even before she knew that she cannot die.
- there are not a lot of women that are side characters. besides anne, the countess and her daughter, the other women are added and portrayed as a villain to the mc. and that was kind of exhausting to see (lowkey felt mysogynistic too lol) i mean the rodeon guy or the prince could've been a girl. heck even the pope could've been a girl (i mean violet even thought he was a girl at first)
- i don't 100% like aiden as well. it's probably just because of the trope "a brother is mean to his sister just because he can't express his feelings properly so it's up to the girl to understand his intentions despite it" but i appreciate how he really became a brother to her when they grew up
i'll go off on a tangent and mention a vid i saw that said how us women are conditioned at a young age to understand that whenever boys are being mean, or "silly", it's only because they don't really know how to express themselves. and we are told that they say hurtful words because they like us.
- for what is worth, i like violet's character and understood how she became like that. it's just so sad how she never really grew up being loved as to what a normal kid should. she wasn't able to escape the temple nor change it so it won't be corrupt (tho maybe this was tackled in the novel idk)
- this rarely happpens to me while reading but holy shit i cried so much for violet on ch 96 and just how she is always pushed to a corner. plus listening to 'stop the wedding' by ashe, certainly did not help with my tears lol
